Documentation burden displacing bedside time
-
System failure identification
A substantial share of a clinical shift is spent in the records system rather than with patients. The burden is widely acknowledged and rarely measured against the specific workflows producing it. The cost is paid in attention that was meant for patients.
-
Data pipeline diagnostics
Audit logs record keystrokes and screen time but are analysed for compliance, not workload. The data needed to attribute time to individual forms and fields exists and is not used for that purpose. Compliance questions ask who accessed a record, never how long it took them.
-
Predictive computational model
Attribute interaction time to individual forms, then rank forms by total time consumed across the organisation. The ranking identifies which templates are worth redesigning first. Ranking by total organisational time targets effort where it returns most.
-
Workflow integration
Feed the ranking into the forms governance process. This is a design backlog rather than an alert, and it belongs wherever template changes are actually approved. An alert cannot fix a problem whose cause is a form design.
