Cross-facility bed tracking during surge

  1. System failure identification

    During regional surge, the shared capacity picture diverges from reality within hours. Coordinators route patients to hospitals that filled while the report was still being compiled. Confidence in the shared picture falls exactly when reliance on it rises.

  2. Data pipeline diagnostics

    The regional view is assembled from periodic submissions by each site. Update frequency is set by reporting convenience and is far slower than the rate at which capacity changes under surge. The cadence was fixed for steady state and never adapted to surge.

  3. Predictive computational model

    Make refresh interval a function of rate of change: when regional occupancy moves quickly, required reporting frequency rises. Display the age of each facility’s figure beside it. Tying frequency to volatility spends reporting effort only when it is warranted.

  4. Workflow integration

    Automate submission from existing bed systems so a higher frequency does not translate into more manual work. Otherwise the requirement is simply not met when it matters. A requirement that increases manual work during a surge will be quietly dropped.
